In Agreement

I am writing in response to two letters to the editor in the Highlands Today of Nov. 17. I agreed with both letters wholeheartedly.

First, the letter from Don Streeter. Sir, I, too, think it is a good idea to vote all incumbents out of office. When our elected officials refuse to listen or acknowledge what is in the best interest of their constituents, we use our most powerful tool available. We "un-elect" them. Yes, this may be a situation of throwing the baby out with the bath water, in that the very few good elected officials will lose their positions of trust, but we, the voters, desperately need to clean house.

Secondly, the letter from James L. Geer. To you, sir, I also agree. Name calling, refusal to uphold the laws and pity are just a few of the ways that the government is refusing to listen to the voters. I welcome all people, who want to live in the United States. But do it legally.

I am not concerned that it may take you years to become a citizen, with the rights specified by that citizenship. If you had to work a little harder at obtaining a longed for goal, you might just appreciate the achievement of that goal. Mr. Geer, I suggest we do as Mr. Streeter has decided to do, vote all incumbents out and start afresh with representation that listens to the voters. Minnesota did so when they elected Jesse Ventura. He may not have been the most experienced politician, but he listened to the people that elected him.

To paraphrase: "Evil thrives and grows when the voters do nothing but complain among themselves."
