With reference to your Nov. 1 first page story "Family, friends, plea for man in court," I have a comment and a couple of questions, the second of which is beyond your area of responsibility to answer.
I would like to have been in court to show whatever support I could for my good friend Dale Leland.
Question one. In a case involving inappropriate touching, isn't that adequate without you having to describe it in detail?
Question two. Without trying to minimize the seriousness of the charges, if every indictable offense across our land were apprehended and prosecuted and sentenced for "only" six and a half years, plus seven years of probation and a fine in addition to the stigma of a continuing record of being a sex offender, what percentage of the population would be incarcerated? Just wondering.
I used the word "only" not because you did, but because the story indicates the sentence could have been much more severe. I cannot believe that if the 12-year-ld had resisted, Mr. Leland would have forced her. She was not a tiny child.
