The state has taken away "public transportation" for Medicare recipients, to help reduce our taxes. If you are on Medicaid you can receive it, but if you're on Medicare, there is no more funding for it, and you just don't need it. That must be their theory?
My daughter, who has a progressive crippling disease, was recently denied transportation for a "follow- up" appointment, two days after she had cataract surgery. I have spent two days phoning all over the state without any results. She has to have another cataract removed, which involves two appointments again, and three other appointments before the year's end.
Public transportation supplies a van with a tie down for a wheel chair, which we need, and had one many times in the past. I was told I could get this van if I paid $30 for each of us, "one way." Let's see, that will come to $480 for four appointments. My daughter has to have an escort, which is me.
This past year, her condition has progressed after a thyroid removal, and I had to resort to public transportation. I considered that a "blessing." Now the "blessing" has been removed, thanks to the "powers that be" in Tallahassee.
All this must be a dilemma for others as well. Consider this as written for you also, as you must be hurting, too.
