Endangered Species Habitat

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The editorial of Dec. 20, titled "Balancing Needs For Cash And Land Critical As Area Grows," covered an important subject and the reference to the fact that endangered species need certain habitats in order to survive, was a statement all of us should ponder; as wildlife is such an important segment of our "quality of life." Thank you for your thoughtful opinion. However, a headline in your Dec. 17 issue screamed, "Grove Owners Want Development Of 4,600 Homes."

That is all well and good, and the zoning board should not be pressured to make a rash, rushed decision, just because a silver-tongued lawyer from Lake Placid is so "gung-ho" for the proposed development plan.

The Department of Community Affairs (DCA) should be reminded of all the hundreds of platted lots left in Highlands County that should be a priority for development, instead of the land mentioned above. It is certain that this fact will be considered by the zoning board in their deliberations.
