With great pleasure the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Post 9853 in Avon Park had the honor to present the Voice of Democracy Medals to the following essay winners.

Dulina Charlot, who won the gold medal for first place, also received a $150 check.
Amirica Nicholson, second place winner won the silver medal and $100.

Brittanie Calshoun, third place winner received a bronze medal and a $50 check for her essay. Congratulations to all the students that participated in this year's essay contest.

Col. Hutchison and Chief Green of the AFJROTC beamed with pride seeing them receiving their awards.
Dulinas's essay will be sent to VFW State Department of Florida, and the winner there will receive a $1,000 scholarship. The winner of state will be going on an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., and the winner then will be at the national level and will receive a $25,000 scholarship.

The Ladies Auxiliary also had the pleasure of presenting Tom and Tammy Macklin of Avon Park with a plaque for the Community Service award and family of the year award. It takes a special person to win this award, and when you have a husband and wife team, you have it all. Tom and Tammy, when they see something that needs doing for the community, county and even state level, they just do it.

When you see them, just walk up and say "Thanks" for all the long hours and hard work that they do for us, for they really are an outstanding volunteer family in our community.
