Crescent Beach closed for swimming

SEBRING - The city of Sebring closed Crescent Beach to swimming Wednesday for 30 days, after that beach and City Pier Beach, which is already closed, tested for high fecal bacteria levels.

Public Works Director Rob Miller said Wednesday he could have called the Highlands County Health Department, which ordered the shutdown, for a retest but decided against it.

"Because of the cold weather, I seriously doubt anyone would be swimming anyhow," he said. "It will probably be 30 days before they're tested again."

Based on those results, the beaches will either be re-opened or remain closed, he said.

City Pier Beach is already closed due to unsafe conditions there.
