SEBRING - The city of Sebring closed Crescent Beach to swimming Wednesday for 30 days, after that beach and City Pier Beach, which is already closed, tested for high fecal bacteria levels.Published: December 22, 2010
Public Works Director Rob Miller said Wednesday he could have called the Highlands County Health Department, which ordered the shutdown, for a retest but decided against it.
"Because of the cold weather, I seriously doubt anyone would be swimming anyhow," he said. "It will probably be 30 days before they're tested again."
Based on those results, the beaches will either be re-opened or remain closed, he said.
City Pier Beach is already closed due to unsafe conditions there.
