Tubbs takes 7th at state

Sebring senior Taylor Tubbs placed seventh in the Class 3A state cross-country championships in Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee on Saturday, finishing in a time of 18:34.61. It was Tubbs' second trip to the state cross-country championships, having competed last year, and she was the only Highlands County runner to qualify this year.Published: November 19, 2012
Chiles senior Susan Givens, who placed fifth a year ago, was the state champion with a time of 17:48.78, while Estero successfully defended its girls team title with a dominating performance, as the Wildcats had four of the top 13 runners, including the second- and third-place finishers. Givens' time was the fastest of the four class winners.
St. Thomas Aquinas raced to victory in the girls Class 4A meet, while Colonial High School captured the boys Class 4A title on the heels of Andres Arroyo, who captured the boys individual title with a time of 15:18.95, the fastest time turned in for the day.
