On Tuesday, the Highlands Ridge traveling team visited Tanglewood for another round of play in the South Central Pickleball League. After three hours of hard-fought matches on a beautiful winter day in the Florida sunshine, Tanglewood came out on top by a final score 59-8.

The Tanglewood team wrapped up a successful regular season, finishing with an impressive 12-3 match record.

Tanglewood's men's A team of Jimmy Maynard and Wayne Buck finished the regular season undefeated in their 13 matches, while the B team of Mark Jones and Gary Sewell finished with a solid 12-1 mark. The C team of Tom Stadler and Roger Binette finished with an 8-5 record.

The Tanglewood women's A team, comprised of Diane Reynolds and Debi Yandell, finished 11-2 on the season record.

All and all, it was a tremendously successful regular season for a great group of Tanglewood "picklers."

The Tanglewood team will now enter the tournament shootout with a first-round bye after finishing first in regular season play. Teams from Del Webb at Haines City, Lake Ashton of Lake Wales and Riverbend in Labelle will compete against the two local teams: Highlands Ridge and Tanglewood, at Tanglewood on Sunday, March 3, and Monday, March 4

The Tanglewood team won't stop there, however, as the Tanglewood Pickleball Club is hosting the Heartland Games for Active Adults for the sixth year. The club was founded in 2008 and currently has 136 active members.

Tanglewood pickleballers hosted the "Winter Classic Pickleball Tournament" and are looking forward to the opportunity to showcase the Tanglewood facilities and the ever-improving skill levels of the members.

Men's and ladies' doubles will be played on Friday, March 15, with mixed doubles taking to the courts on Saturday, March 16. This is an age category event, not a rated tournament, and the age categories are: 50 to 54, 55 to 59, 60 to 64, 65 to 69, 70 to 74 and 75-and-older.

Pickleball is well-suited to seniors, with a court that is much smaller than a tennis court. The sport has caught on and has spread like wildfire across the continent, with facilities being set up both indoors and outdoors.
