LAKE PLACID The Lake Placid Green Dragons and Mulberry Panthers battled to a 1-all tie in Class 2A-District 10 boys soccer action on Tuesday

"We played well," said Lake Placid coach James Ashley. "We out-shot Mulberry tonight by 13 shots and it shows me that we are headed in the right direction, we just need to finish better."

It was the Panthers who got on the scoreboard first, notching a goal by Omar Diaz, off a cross deep in the corner. Neither team would find the back of the net for the remainder of the first half and Mulberry led 1-0 at the intermission.

Lake Placid responded in the second half with a double-assisted goal of their own that begin from a free kick from midfield by Miguel Resendiz that found the head of Wilfreddy Moreno. Moreno directed the ball to Yoyi Gomez, who cut the ball quickly and blasted a shot past the Panthers' goalkeeper.

Ashley said the team played a solid game.

"Our only mistake resulted in the goal we gave up," he said. "Overall, Ivan Barajas was solid in goal tonight.  His play gave us confidence we needed with the ball. We were all over them for most of the game and just didn't finish well."

Ashley said it only takes one shot to completely change a tie game.

"We had plenty of those chances but just couldn't put the one in that we needed," he said.

The Green Dragons (1-6-2 overall, 1-4-2 district) return to the pitch tonight when they host Hardee in a boys-girls doubleheader at Roger Scarborough Memorial Field. The Lake Placid girls, who played Mulberry to a 2-all draw, will start play at 5:30, with the boys scheduled to begin at 7:30.

Hardee defeated the Lake Placid boys 2-1 in the first meeting of the season between the two teams.
