LAKELAND The Lake Placid Aquatics swim team went up against some of the best swimmers in the state earlier this month, competing in the 15-team TBAY Invitational in Lake. Nearly 520 swimmers competed in the two-day event.

Several swimmers had huge meets for Lake Placid, including James Baker, who placed in the top six in seven of his eight events and finished ninth in the other. He had a strong second-place finish in the boys 8-and-under 50-yard freestyle and took third in the 25 freestyle. He showed time improvement in seven of his eight events and scored a team-high 111 points.

Braden Million had a strong showing in the boys 6-and-under age group. He placed second in the 25 backstroke and added a third-place effort in the 25 freestyle on his way to scoring 58 team points.

Those with top 10 finishes included Ashby Edgemon with two (girls 6-and-under 25 freestyle and 25 backstroke), Daniel Maulden (boys 8-and-under 50 freestyle and 50 breastroke), Logan Million (boys 11-12 50 backstroke), Mason Million (boys 13-14 200 backstroke), Robbye Teal and Tristan Davis.

Also scoring points for LPA in the meet were Brice Creel, Gunner Durrance, Catherin Dye, Jackie Edgemon, Michael Edgemon, Alexis Maulden and Peyton Ming.

There were plenty of other swimmers who were able to knock time off their previous efforts, including Jenna Capuano, who showed solid improvement in all five events; Megan Cooper, who turned in a number of strong times; Aynsley Davis, who knocked off plenty of seconds in several events; and Cody DeYoung, who showed huge gains during the meet.

Jackie Edgemon, who scored in all eight events, made some big gains and knocked more than 25 seconds off his time in the 100 freestyle and nearly 30 seconds in the 200 medley, while Michael Edgemon had three events where he showed at least a 10-second improvement.

Braden Million and Mason Million, Ming and MacKenzie Moore were also among those dropping time.

Lake Placid Aquatics hosted a home meet over the weekend against the Highlands Hurricanes and Hardee Swim Association. See the Highlands Today sports section for photos and results.
