Lake Placid used its potent offense to ease past Avon Park by a score of 9-1 in boys district soccer on Tuesday night.

"We started a little slow, but we found our rhythm after a while," said Lake Placid coach James Ashley.

The Green Dragons got on the scoreboard in the 20th minute as Jose Santana buried a one-touch shot off a heel pass from Osvaldo Orduna at the top of the penalty box.

Lake Placid continued to pressure the Red Devil defense as Yoyi Gomez netted a pair of goals and Wilfreddy Moreno found the back of the net to give the Green Dragons a commanding 4-0 lead at the half.

"Fabian Munguia deserves a lot of credit for our success in this match" said Ashley. "He did a good job of fighting for every ball and pressuring Avon Park's defense.

"He created a ton of momentum which we needed."

The Green Dragons continued to pepper the Avon Park goal with shots as Orduna, Diego Mireles and Adrian Barragan tallied goals and Gomez added a pair to seal the district contest.

"It was a good win for us," Ashley said. "I'm proud of the players that came off the bench because they set the tone for our team to open the match."

The Green Dragons are back on the pitch on Tuesday with a district home match against Mulberry. Lake Placid hosts Hardee on Friday.

"This is a good match to build on," said Ashley. "We have a lot of room for improvement."

Lake Placid hosts DeSoto on Dec. 18 and plays at Avon Park on Dec. 20 before breaking for the holidays.

"This is a good group of hard-working guys and we're starting to jell as a team," Ashley said. "I'm excited about this team and what we could possibly accomplish this season."
