Golf tournaments in full swing

SEBRING - It's that time of year once again, as local golfers have plenty of charity golf tournaments taking place over the next two weeks.Published: February 20, 2013
The Woman's Club of Sebring got the ball rolling with their third annual tournament at Golf Hammock on Saturday, as players enjoyed cool weather in the morning and excellent playing conditions.
The field was broken into two flights and the winning team in the First Flight with a score of 56 was the foursome of Gary Michalak, John Michalak, Garland Reynolds and Bruce Gustazson.
The top team in the Second Flight, with a solid score of 52.6, was the foursome of Matt Dinchik, Pam Butto, Lee Markwell and Vera Martin.
In addition to golf, there were 70 prizes raffled off with a value of over $1,000.
On Saturday there are two more tournaments taking place, with the fifth annual Avon Park Rotary David "Doc" Owen Memorial Golf Tournament slated for River Greens. The event will begin at 8 a.m. and the cost is $65 per player.

The Sebring Eagles No. 4240 will be also holding a four-person golf scramble on Saturday to benefit the Highlands County Humane Society and Heartland Horses and Handicapped. The tournament will be at the Country Club of Sebring with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start and lunch will follow at the Sebring Eagles. Contact 655-4007 or 214-8005 for more information.
The following Saturday, March 2, will see three tournaments taking place, including the Lake Placid Moose Lodge Golf Tournament at Placid Lakes Country Club. Contact Lane Capp at 381-5571 or Placid Lakes Country Club or the Lake Placid Moose Lodge for more information.
The seventh annual James McFarling Golf Scramble will be held at Spring Lake's Golf Resort's Panther Creek Course. Proceeds will benefit the Highlands County Sertoma Junior Golf Tour scholarship fund. This year's scholarship recipients were Lindsey Moffat, Jonah Brown, Sarah Liles and Shawn Garner.
