Fairmount Services earns first softball win

Last Tuesday's Sebring 50-and-over senior softball league action at the Highlands County Sports Complex saw Fairmount Services winning its first game of the season with a 10-6 win over Reflections. 

Dick Cook and Greg Ramos led the way with four hits and two doubles each. Tom McNally, Roger Lynch, Johnny Buja and Jim Morgan each pounded three hits. 

Collecting two hits for Reflections were Don Dobbert, Ron Rieches, Phil Grimpe, John Smutnick and Bob Richards.

In Thursday's doubleheader, the first game had Bill Jarrett Ford topping Fairmount Services 15-4. Jarrett Ford was paced by Jim Holmes' four hits, including a double and triple. Also for Jarrett, Dave Reed hit a homer to left center into a strong wind among his three hits for the day. 

Third baseman Larry Kelly shook out of a slump with three hits, including a home run shot. Les Osbeck smacked a triple among his three hits. Jim Kahn was 3-for-3 and pitched a solid game for the win. 

Fairmount Services was paced by Tom McNally's three hits including two doubles, Buja's double and triple and Dick Cook's three singles.

In the second game, Reflections continued its winning ways against Bill Jarrett, 16-15.  Best dressed player J.C. Brown, just out of sick bay, drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. 

Phil Grimpe and John Smutnick both smashed home runs to go with their four hits each. Chipping in with three hits each were Don Dobbert, Ron Rieches, Gary Decosta, Gary Kindle, and Hollywood Detore. 

For Bill Jarrett Ford, Jim Holmes continued his hot hitting with another 4-for-4 game including two doubles. Reed again homered to go along with his three hits. Larry Kelly added three hits to a total of six on the day.
