AVON PARK - Those who like close competitions couldn't have asked for much more than Saturday's 16th annual Avon Park Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament at River Greens Golf Course. All three flights were decided by a total of two strokes, as matching cards were used to determine the winners of two flights.

The tournament had an afternoon start and golfers couldn't have asked for better weather or playing conditions.

In the First Flight, two teams checked in with outstanding scores of 59, but on a match of cards, the foursome of Ella Hillier, Sheila Chiarandini, Deborah Reimer and Nina Greene won. Placing second was the talented foursome of Greg Gentry, Doug Gentry, John Barben and Travis Dunn.

It came down to a match of cards to determine the Second Flight winners as well, with the team of Joe Holden, Jim Shondel, Steve Bossieve and Tom McLaughlin coming away with the victory after recording a solid score of 61.

Taking second place with a score of 61 was the foursome of Gary Williams, Mike London, Ed Long and Thom Jenkins.

In the Third Flight, the winning team consisted of Carl Cool, Mason Cobb, Tom Griffin and Megan Griffin. The team recorded a score of 64.

Placing second, with a score of 66, was the foursome of Ken Danielson, Barry Bittner, Bret Goldman and Andrew Deirlein.

Bud Castilow won the closest-to-the pin for men on No. 3, while Greene captured the KP honors for women with her tee shot on No. 12.
