Barajas 5K run draws well

LAKE PLACID - Renee Marin and Jane Wickman took top honors in the Alex Barajas 5K in Lake Placid on Saturday in 17:34 and 25:27 respectively. It was the second straight win in the event for Marin, who captured last year's race in 18:02.Published: January 15, 2013
Keith Campbell (23:13) and Maria Barragan (26:56) won the Masters titles with solid performances.
The Alex Barajas 5K is a fundraiser for scholarships in the name of Alex, who died of cancer just after graduating from Lake Placid High School. An enthusiastic crowd of 174 participants turned out to honor the memory of the young man.
On the male side, Zac Boley won the 10-and-under title in 27:49, Dylan Branch won the 11-to-14 division in 24:38 and Lake Placid cross-country runner Nick Gregor won the 15- to-18 class in 21:51.
Steve Endicott won the 19-to-24 division in 20:38, Darryl White captured the 25- to-29 class in 23:41 and Jesus Garcia placed first in the 30-to-34 division with a time of 24:43.
Victor Ochoa won the 40-to-44 class in 24:04, Saverio Telesco placed first in the 45-to-49 division with a time of 33:36 and Walter Kohl finished first in the 50-to-54 class in 29:40.
Russell Andrews finished first in the 55-to-59 class in 24:32, Charles McLocklin was first in the 60-to-64 class in 24:14, Richard Rucker won the 65-to-69 division in 30:13 and Gary Walker took the 70-and-over class in 46:56.
Among females, Carlyn Bobo won the 10-and-under class in 31:15, Emily Brower won the 11-to-14 class in 27:52 and Annie Weber-Callahan won the 15-to-18 class in 32:00.
Claudia Cendejas finished first in the 19-to-24 division in 28:09, Angelica Gomez placed first in the 25-to-29 class in 33:20, and Linda Jimenez was first in the 30-to-34 class in 33:13.
Elisa Ochoa placed first in the 35-to-39 class in 37:55, Cindy Ringstaff won the 40-to-44 division in 33:50 and Mary Ann Andrews took top honors in the 45-to-49 class with a time of 29:34.
Robin Gonzalez was first in the 50-to-54 class in 41:32, Barb Sheasley placed first in the 55-to-59 division in 44:21, Mary Rucker won the 65-to-69 class in 36:15 and Ginger Keimel won the 70-and-over class in 54:37.
