LAKE PLACID - First Presbyterian Church Lake Placid, 117 N. Oak Ave., invites the public to the first concert of its 2012-13 concert series, as it welcomes Julianna Zobrist in concert at 4 p.m. Oct. 14.Published: October 5, 2012
Zobrist is the wife of Tampa Bay Rays baseball player Ben Zobrist. A love offering will be taken as a gift for flying to Florida from Nashville.
Zobrist performs club-style Christian music, geared toward the younger market with a mainstream sound.
"I was actually trained classically growing up — classical music and opera, which is hilarious," said Zobrist. "But I always listened to Michael Jackson and Gloria Estefan and people who would make me dance. The Ting Tings. My taste in music now and through college has always been very eclectic. I love The Black Keys. I love the musical sounds of Lady Gaga. Musically, these people inspire me."
Dedication to family is of the utmost importance to both Julianna and Ben. Ben has spent most of his career bouncing around from one position to another on the baseball field.
As the parents of two young children, they often lead a harried life. During the offseason, the family lives in Nashville.
Earlier this summer, Julianna released her extended play, "Say It Now." She's performing concerts and writing to complete her full album.
"I grew up listening to music that would make me move and dance," Zobrist said. "If it did not make me dance, I did not want to listen to it. I write my music for all those who are like me. I want to provide music that inspires a person to move and think.
"I feel like there's an opportunity in Christian music to have a fun new sound out there."
Sweets will be served in the church's garden starting at 3:15 p.m.
