SEBRING - Most of a retaining wall that's been a source of controversy for more than two years will be torn down by Jan. 7, Sebring City Administrator Scott Noethlich said Wednesday.

Excavation Point Inc., the firm hired by the city to remove the wall, notified the city that it will mobilize for the job on Jan. 2 and have it completed within 5 days.

The Sebring City Council last week appropriated about $12,000 for the project.

City officials say the wall, on property owned by Gingerlee Mitchelllindo at 503 E. Center Ave., encroaches on city right-of-way. A court granted the city the right earlier this year to tear down the wall.
