In a letter that accompanied the certificates, President Barack Obama wrote, "By earning this honor, you have shown a commitment to working hard in the classroom and to meeting the highest academic standards. Students like you will chart the course of our country's unwritten history, and I commend you for setting a powerful example for all young Americans."
Avon Park High School Principal Tealy Williams shared his encouragement and admiration and said he looked forward to more students earning those certificates in the coming school year.
