AVON PARK - The Presidential Screening Committee met Tuesday to begin reviewing applications in its efforts to find the fourth president of South Florida State College.

President Norm Stephens Jr., who has served SFSC since 2002, will retire from the college on June 30.

During the meeting, Screening Committee Chairman Ken Lambert and SFSC Human Resources Director Susan Hale briefed committee members on the procedures to follow when reviewing potential presidential candidate applications.

To assist committee members in the review of applications, the SFSC Human Resources Department has made an online system available that displays resumes, completed application forms, cover letters and other submitted materials.

Each committee member will present his or her individual list of top 10 competitive candidates at a committee meeting on Tuesday.

To date, the SFSC District Board of Trustees has received 47 applications for the position of college president. Of those, 23 have been selected as the most competitive by presidential search consultant Jeff Hockaday. Those candidates met all minimum requirements indicated in the presidential profile developed by the trustees.

According to Lambert, screening committee members are welcome to champion a candidate not selected by Hockaday.
