SFSC announces performance lineup

AVON PARK - The South Florida State College Box Office opens for online ticket sales for its 2012-13 performance season Oct. 15. Season subscriptions and individual performance tickets can be purchased in person at the box office or by calling the box office beginning Oct. 22.

The 2012-13 season is full of must-see acts. A standout act from last season's Matinee Series, Darren Williams, will come to this season's Artist Series on Jan. 10. His vocal range lets him sing just about anything, from pop to opera.

For 13 years, the Lennon Sisters charmed the nation on The Lawrence Welk Show and The Lennon Sisters Hour. Catch them live Feb. 14.

The Women of Ireland will perform Feb. 18. The production will feature live musicians, vocalists and dancers performing traditional Irish music.

The Popovich Comedy Pet Theatre will roll into town Feb. 27. A former juggler for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Gregory Popovich has more than 20 trained cats, dogs and geese, all of which were rescued from shelters and given a chance to shine in a show that has been described as a cirque show for animals.

One of America's most beloved comedians, Bill Cosby, will perform on March 25. This will be Cosby's first performance in Highlands County.

Kicking off the Matinee Series Jan. 8 is Four Divo, a gathering of rising stars from opera, Broadway, jazz and classical, and based off of Simon Cowell's popular group, Il Divo.

Mickey Finn brings his high-energy, fun-filled show to the stage Feb. 5. He is best known for his comedy Dixieland show in Las Vegas, which ran for 25 years.

Phil Dirt and the Dozers will rock the oldies Feb. 19. The group's performance encompasses three decades of rock 'n roll music.

The Diamonds will take you down memory lane March 5. You'll be able to sing along with classic hits from the 1950s and '60s, like "Little Darlin'," "The Stroll" and "Silhouettes."

The Jazz Series kicks off Jan. 16 with the Eddie Metz Jr. Trio which features Rossano Sportiello on piano, Nicki Parrott on bass and vocals and Eddie Metz Jr. on drums.

Well-known Miami saxophonist Ed Calle will make his first appearance at the SFSC Jazz Series on Feb. 9 with a quartet presenting a varied program of Latin, standards and other well-known selections.

Lynn Trefzger will start the Kaleidoscope Series with a lot of laughs Dec. 7. This self-taught comedian ventriloquist will present a night of award-winning, family-friendly comedy.

The world-renowned Kruger Brothers perform Jan. 31 with a unique blend of folk, bluegrass, jazz and classical, as well as silly on-stage antics.

Season subscriptions offer the best seats at the lowest prices and begin at $254 for all 10 shows of the Artist Series.

Matinee Series season subscriptions begin at $115 for 10 shows.

Jazz and Kaleidoscope series season subscriptions begin at $57.

You may create your own subscription by selecting five or more Artist and Matinee series performances and save 15 percent off your total bill.

The Box Office is now offering gift certificates in any amount over $20, which may be purchased in person or by phone but are not available online.
