Passenger killed in US 27 crash

LAKE PLACID The passenger in a Honda Pilot died in a single-car crash on northbound U.S. 27 at 9:49 a.m. Friday after the vehicle tried to change lanes and lost control.

Linxi Li, 56, of Davie, died from injuries after the vehicle she was riding in tried to change lanes, then saw the car in front also change lanes, and then changed again, causing the Honda to lose control, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

The vehicle fishtailed and exited the highway into the ditch on the east shoulder. The vehicle's tire hit an embankment and went airborne, according to the report. It hit a palm tree and ended up on its roof.

The driver, Ming Lei, 56, of Davie, was treated for minor injuries and cited for careless driving. Another passenger, Jonathan Guozhi Lei, 19, of Davie was unhurt and Kevin Guohong, 19, also of Davie, sustained minor injuries.

Li was listed as critical and taken to Florida Hospital Lake Placid, where she died.
