AVON PARK - Noah's Fall Festival will kick off its 18th year from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Joe Franza Stadium at Avon Park High School.

Organizer Jay Whipkey said the event originally started as a Christian alternative to Halloween where kids can have a safe place to trick-or-treat. "When we first did it, we had 25 kids," Whipkey said. "Last year, we had 4,200 come through the gates."

With the assistance of more than 300 volunteers, 12 local churches, Christian businesses and physicians, the festival will offer carnival-style games, large inflatables, candy, food, drinks and entertainment — all free of charge.

"Kids can play games as much as they want," Whipkey said. "When kids play games, win or lose, they receive a prize." He also said they can get as much food as they want.

Entertainment and music will be provided by Light Central of Orlando and In One Voice from Pompano.

In addition to activities for children, there will be a health and resource fair with free screenings provided by multiple area doctors, the Highlands County Health Department, Red Cross, the Bloodmobile and others.

Children may come in costume or not. For more information, call Whipkey at 273-9152.
