New signage for boat ramps and parks

LAKE PLACID - One of the areas benefiting from new informative signs is H.L. Bishop Park. The existing signs in county parks and various boat ramps and lakes were faded and needed to be replaced.

The Tourist Development Council provided the funds to purchase new signs, which identify the lake and are more appealing than the previous signage.

"Before placing the signs near the lakes, visitors may not have been aware of what lake they were visiting," said Mike McMillian, lakes management assistant and designer of the new signs. "Now each lake is identified."

John Scherlacher, director of the TDC, said, "The dollar amount for all the signs came from the tourist development tax. The signs were a recommendation from the TDC and the Lakes Association. Spending approval for this project was granted by the Highlands County Board of County Commissioners. This is another project that is geared toward visitors; another expression of welcome to Highlands County. Each sign says welcome to whichever lake they are visiting. These signs give acknowledgement of each lake so people know where they are."

County crews from the Parks and Natural Resource Department will be installing the new signs at the following locations:

Arbuckle Creek, Lake Apthorpe, Lake Placid, Lake Damon, Dinner Lake, Lake Glenada, Lake Istokpoga, Lake Lelia, Little Lake Bonnett, Lake Lotela, Lake Persimmon, Red Beach Lake, Lake Viola, Lake Adelaide, Lake Carie, Lake Clay, Lake Denton, Lake Francis, Lake Huntly, Lake Josephine, Lake Letta, Little Lake Redwater, Lake Olivia, Lake Pioneer, Lake Sebring, Lake Wolf, Istokpoga Park, Windy Point Park and H.L. Bishop Park.
