SUN 'N LAKE - Curt McCullough was elected Friday as a Sun 'n Lake supervisor. He was the only qualifying candidate for the seat being vacated by Frank Guglielmi, who chose not to run for another term.Published: January 27, 2013
Three of the five Sun 'n Lake of Sebring improvement district board of director seats are popularly elected — one resident, one vote — by Sun 'n Lake and Tanglewood residents.
However, Friday's election was reserved for land owners. Anyone who pays assessments to the district can vote, even if they don't reside there, and even if they aren't American citizens.
Votes are weighted by the amounts residents pay in assessments: one dollar, one vote. The owners of Tanglewood and the Florida Hospital are the two largest assessment payers in the district.
Friday's landowner meeting, which included the election, took only about 20 minutes, said district executive Michael Wright.
McCullough joins incumbent Dave Halbig and another newcomer, Richard Hulbert, who were elected in November. Halbig was selected by the new board to preside; Miller will be vice president. Dick Miller and Gene Gangemi complete the board.
