SEBRING - A Sebring man accused of breaking into a house and seeking a ride to his wife's place of employment instead ended up being taken to the Highlands County jail.

William Franklin Singletary, 49, 3813 S. Howard Ave., Sebring, was arrested Jan. 11 and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief, burglary with assault or battery and resisting an officer without violence.

The arrest came after a man and his wife reported that Singletary, a former co-worker of the man, busted the front door open and pointed what may have been a gun at the wife, saying, "Sit down whore or I'll pop a cap in you," the husband told investigators.

He also reported that Singletary told him that in the past he was in the business of "capping people."

The husband said he got Singletary to go outside and Singletary offered him $10 for the ride, but he refused, the arrest affidavit said.

Singletary denied pointing a gun at anyone, the report said. He also accused the wife of going ballistic at him for no reason, the affidavit said.

As of Monday, he remained in jail.
