Man accused of burglary and escape

SEBRING A Sebring man suspected of burglary, escaped from a patrol car, despite having on wrist and leg restraints, according to an arrest affidavit.Published: February 8, 2013
Steven John Reimann, 25, 4714 Granada Ave., who was recaptured 50 feet from the patrol car after it was stopped, was charged by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, third-degree grand theft of a dwelling and escape.
Reimann was arrested Feb. 6 after a woman reported that she heard some individuals while they were inside a vacant residence behind her property, the affidavit said.
Deputies located a vehicle the woman described as leaving the scene and arrested Reimann, the report said.
After being placed in the car, Reimann "began repeatedly slamming his head into the plexy glass of the in-car cage," the affidavit said.
The deputy then placed a hobble around Reimann's legs and one through his wrist restraints, the report said.
Despite those restraints, the deputy noticed a few minutes later that Reimann had partially pulled off the car's door paneling and got one of the rear doors open by defeating the door-locking mechanism, the report said.
The deputy stopped the vehicle and got the door secured. But later, he again noticed that Reimann had forced the door open and escaped, the report said.
Reimann is accused of taking air conditioners from the house.
As of press time Friday, Reimann remained in jail on $45,000 bond.
