LP woman dies in Polk crash

FROSTPROOF - A Lake Placid woman died in a single-car crash Thursday morning on County Road 64 near the Avon Park Bombing Range in Polk County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.Published: August 31, 2012
Editha H. Beard, 58, was traveling east on C.R. 64 at a high rate of speed in a 2010 Hyundai Accent, the patrol reported.
Approaching the entry point to the Avon Park Air Force Range at about 3:35 a.m. Thursday, judging from the scene Beard appeared to lose control the car which was driven off the left side of the roadway prior to the gate, and onto the shoulder, the report stated.
Once on the shoulder the Hyundai collided with a ditch and a tree before overturning and ejecting the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, the report stated.
The driver received fatal injuries and died at the scene of the crash, FHP reported.
This incident remains under investigation. Details regarding this incident are subject to change, the report stated.
