SEBRING - Cynthia Schumacher, a local author, will be the guest speaker at the Florida Writer's Association group "Sebring Scribblers and Scribes" at their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. tonight at Beef O' Brady's in Sebring.Published: October 3, 2012
Schumacher is a native of Sebring who left to pursue a career in teaching in the '50s. She returned in 2008, retiring after 33 years as an elementary and secondary public school teacher, but still continues to volunteer in the state as an educational consultant for grades K-12.
She is one of the founders of the Association for Creative Expression.
While visiting a gift shop one summer in the mountains, she was intrigued by a Smoky Mountain troll and thus began developing her idea for her tale of Willenbron and the Gralumpy. The children's book, just published by PepperTree Press of Sarasota, is written for children 8 through 11. It tells the family history of Willenbron Grotsken, whose ancestors were a band of outlaw trolls. It is illustrated by David White of Heidelberg, Germany.
Schumacher is a member of Scribblers, The Heartland Cultural Alliance, and has appeared at "Scribes Night Out" in Brewster's Coffee House on several occasions. She is an accomplished poet and her published writings include five volumes of poetry; Rapunzel (a musical play in pantomime); and two children's books, "Colorful Character" and "Searching for S."
She presents workshops in creative writing; and in her talks before community clubs, church groups, art associations, and students, she is recognized for her presentations on the connection between poetry and the human experience. She can be contacted for appearance arrangements or for her books at (863) 382-3142 or ccjschumacher@mac.com.
There will be a book signing at the end of the meeting. For further information, call Barbara Beswick at 402-9181.
