Troopers said a 2003 Chevrolet Impala driven by Etienne Exiles Delphin, 73, of Lake Placid was eastbound on State Road 44 just east of Walker Road when, around 4:30 p.m., the car veered off the pavement and struck a bridge railing.
The impact sent the car airborne and overturn before coming to rest on the shoulder of the road. The passenger, Maria Benita Delphin, was taken to Leesburg Regional Medical Center, where she later was pronounced dead.
Etienne Delphin was taken to Shands Hospital in Gainesville where he was admitted in serious condition, troopers said.
No charges were immediately filed.
