HARDEE COUNTY - A dump truck driven by a Lake Placid man struck a semitrailer Wednesday afternoon.Published: November 16, 2012
The 2006 Freightliner, driven by James Inman Jr., 64, of Timmonsville, S.C., was northbound on Clifton Bryan Road at 2:04 p.m., approaching the intersection of Steve Roberts Special.
The tractor-trailer had slowed due to the rumble strips prior to the intersection, but Trooper Jesse Deboom's report said Inman "failed to see the stop sign at the intersection of Steve Roberts Special due to the fact that it had somehow been turned sideways."
At the same time, William O. Barfield, 51, was driving a 2004 Mack dump truck westbound on Steve Roberts Special, approaching the intersection of Clifton Bryan Road.
The semi went through the intersection and into the dump truck's path. Both trucks traveled across Steve Roberts Special onto Kelly Roberts Road.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, but Barfield was seriously injured; Inman had no injuries, according to Deboom's report. Alcohol was not a factor.
