LAKE PLACID - A Lake Placid man faces four charges stemming from a domestic violence incident, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, and battery on a police dog.

The victim reported that on Friday her live-in boyfriend of three years, Raymond Mcgovern Jr., 54, was extremely intoxicated and demanded money from her so he could purchase crack cocaine, according to a Highlands County Sheriff's Office report.

She refused to give him any, the report shows. Mcgovern armed himself with a 12-gauge shotgun and then threatened to kill the victim.

Mcgovern's father intervened and the victim ran to a neighbor's residence to call the sheriff's office, the report states.

A sheriff's office K-9 tracked Mcgovern and found him hiding in a nearby canal, according to the report. He did not heed several commands to come out of the canal.

K-9 Cain was deployed and made contact with Mcgovern, who immediately began trying to choke the animal to get away, the report shows.

Mcgovern was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon or ammo by a convicted felon, resisting arrest without violence, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, and touching, striking or causing harm to a police or fire search and rescue animal.

Mcgovern was out on bond on three previous charges from Sept. 11. He was rebooked on those charges, which are: resisting an officer with violence, carrying a concealed weapon, and simple assault on an officer, firefighter, EMT, etc.

He was being held Monday in the Highlands County Jail with no bond.
