LAKE PLACID A Lake Placid man remained in Highlands County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond Thursday morning, charged in connection with a domestic violence-related attempted homicide Wednesday afternoon.

James Wentford Ellis, 56, of Lake Placid, has been charged with attempted homicide/murder depraved without premeditation.

Sheriff's deputies were dispatched at 1:27 p.m. Wednesday, to an undisclosed address in Lake Placid, in connection with this ongoing investigation.

Records show a shooting complaint was called in at an undisclosed address during that same time frame by the sheriff's office, EMS and by fire about two minutes later.

The victim was transported to a hospital, said Sheriff's Spokeswoman Nell Hays. She was waiting for an update on the victim's condition before she would release any further information.

Ellis' relationship with the victim was also not disclosed.

The victim is a male, according to Sheriff's Central Records.
