Deputies investigating home invasion robbery in Avon Park

AVON PARK - The Highlands County Sheriff's Office was investigating Wednesday a home invasion robbery that occurred Monday night on North Self Avenue in Avon Park.Published: November 8, 2012
Between 9:30 p.m. Monday and 12:29 a.m. Tuesday, the homeowner, a 66-year-old man, alleged the robbers entered his home and took about $1,150 cash and his $10 wallet.
The homeowner was not able to give a description of the alleged robbers.
Deputies were dispatched to the crime scene a few seconds after the incident was reported and arrived on scene in about three minutes.
The homeowner told investigators the robbers were armed. The report was unclear about what type of weapon was involved.
The Highlands Lakes Fire Department and Highlands County Emergency Medical Services both were called to render aid to the victim, who was bleeding from his head. Authorities suspected a possible fractured skull, according to a report.
He was transported to a hospital for additional care.
A K-9 track was done with negative results, according to the sheriff's office.
