SEBRING - The Gulf Ridge Council Boy Scouts of America will hold a "shred event" and Scout expo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday behind Lakeshore Mall.

A shred truck from Crown Shredding will destroy confidential documents securely on site. All paperwork must be boxed and the Boy Scouts will accept donations for the service.

There will also be a Scout expo where local Scout troops will demonstrate various activities and Scout skills for the public to see.

The Boy Scouts will accept nonperishable food to kick off their Scouting for Food Community Project, and new or used camping equipment and Scout uniforms to help local troops.

A variety of local agencies and business will participate, including the Highlands County Sheriff's Office; Wrede's Wildlife Sanctuary, with Thunder the bald eagle; Heartland Horses for the Handicapped; the Amateur Radio Club; and more.

The shred truck is sponsored by Highlands Regional Medical Center. The Scout expo is sponsored by Florida Hospital Heartland, Heacock Insurance and Financial Services and Alan Jay Automotive Network.
