AVON PARK Both Avon Park Police and the Highlands County Sheriff's Office responded to a South Summit Avenue home just a half block south off Main Street to a call about a home invasion Wednesday night.

The victim told investigators two armed subjects entered his home just before 11:30 p.m. and demanded money, according to Sheriff's Spokeswoman Nell Hays.

It was unclear at press time if the armed men got any cash, she said.

"The victim was injured during the incident," she said. "However, no shots were fired."

The subjects were described as a Hispanic male and a black male, both with firearms, said Hays.

No further description of the subjects or their direction of travel from the scene was available.

The investigation in this case is ongoing.

As the police department is in transition to the sheriff's office, anyone with information is requested to contact the Highlands County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit and Detective Kenny Young at 863-402-7250.

Anyone with information who wants to remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward is asked to call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS (8477), or on the internet at www.heartlandcrimestoppers.com. Anonymity is guaranteed!
