AVON PARK - The Avon Park City Council has a new face with the swearing in of Garrett Anderson on Wednesday.

Brenda Gray and Terry Heston, who were reelected in the Nov. 6 General Election, also took the oath of office for their new three-year terms, the fifth for Gray and the second for Heston.

Councilman Parke Sutherland made a motion to retain Gray as the vice mayor. Council unanimously approved the motion.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it," Sutherland commented.

In other action, the city received four proposals for auditing services.

City Manager Julian Deleon said by contracting with Clifton Larson Allen, LLP from Sebring, the city would save an estimated $18,000 annually based on the city's 2011 audit, which cost $58,250. That would save the city 31 percent in auditing costs.

"We've had the same auditor for several years and we wanted to go out there and test the market and it really worked out to the city's benefit," he said. The city's previous auditor was based in Daytona Beach so when they came for two or three weeks to look at the city's books the city was paying for hotels and meals, etc.

The city council unanimously approved a three-year contract with Clifton Larson Allen.
