SEBRING - Thirty-one of 39 businesses passed a recent alcohol sale compliance check, according to the Highlands County Sheriff's Office.

In eight of the businesses, however, clerks sold alcohol to a minor who attempted to buy it on an undercover basis.

The businesses that failed the check were BP Gas Station, 3 U.S. 27 North, Avon Park; 7 Days Gas Station, 107 U.S. 27 South, Avon Park; BP Fairmount, 3901 U.S. 27 North, Sebring; Blue Streak, 3229 Kenilworth, Sebring; Sweetbay Liquor, 5121 U.S. 27 North, Lake Placid; USA Groceries, 244 County Road 621, Lake Placid; and Rodney's Marathon, 1451 U.S. 27 South.

Clerks were arrested and charged with sale of an alcoholic beverage to a person under the age of 21, which is a minor, the sheriff's office said.
