Would you ever leave the front door wide open with the air conditioning running? Probably not, but most homeowners are "air conditioning the whole neighborhood" in a host of other ways that are just as wasteful.

Progress Energy spokesperson Rob Sumner said there are a lots of easy and free ways to lower your bill and become more energy conscious. Here are seven:

"If you install a solar water heater, you could quality for a Progress Energy rebate of $550, and you could save 85 percent on the water heating portion of your bill," said Sumner.
