For 60 years, the 12 Hours of Sebring has been thrilling fans with world-class racing. The best teams in the world come here to claim bragging rights on our historic racetrack.
For 150,000 fans or so, they'll spend a week watching amazing driving feats, as well as party with old friends and even make some new ones.
The best part of this week of racing is the tradition behind it. It's not rare to hear from people who have made attending this race a part of their family's tradition for decades.
They converge, often in the same campgrounds, and have everything they need to take it all in.
Changes have come to the races over the years. The track itself has changed, and so have some of the infamous happenings. We like these changes and believe it's brought a different feel that's comforting to families with younger children and others.
Some diehard old-timers may long for the wild and wooly days, when anything goes at the parties at night, but it's nice that the extra-curricular race activities have tamed down some.
There's plenty of fun for everyone, and we hope race fans venture into town to enjoy the many amenities awaiting them. Activities are going on and there are many restaurants and stores ready to serve them.
The races are so much fun on so many levels. There's much to see and something for just about everyone. Amazing cars are on display and there's nothing like watching them maneuver around the track at speeds that make most regular folks dazed at the skill and courage that's required by these drivers.
This wonderful 60-year tradition is on full display this week and we hope everyone takes time to enjoy part of our heritage here in Highlands County. So get ready to rev those engines and head out to the racetrack. It's worth the time and if you've never been before, well, you'll never forget it.
