A travestyPublished: March 8, 2012
Am I having a nightmare? I think our government is deeply concerned about free contraception (paid by us) and they even have a poor disadvantaged student from Georgetown testifying about the hardship of not being entitled to this by her university.
Is this a joke? People are out of work, they have no food, are losing their houses and they want sympathy for free sex encounters. God help us!

Exit Afghanistan — now
Now it is clear — let's follow Russia's example and leave Afghanistan to the Afghans.
Our 10-year adventure began with getting Osama bin Laden and quickly expanded through mission creep to winning hearts and minds, improving living standards and expanding democracy.
It should by now be recognized as beyond our current capabilities and not desired by most Afghans, who would rather return to the good old days of shooting at their neighbors during the warring season.
We cannot, with enthusiasm and well-motivated programs, drag this horse to the water nor make it drink. To them we will always be outsiders. It is about time we face the reality that Afghans are more willing to accept the Taliban than American objectives and start packing our bags. Our troops and the Afghans will be happier for it.

A waste of money
I just saw my first garbage pickup with the new blue containers. I was amazed and impressed by the huge, beautiful truck and the lack of any crew, other than the driver.
What I cannot understand is the expense of all those blue containers and the huge truck — for what? Saving the salaries of the two guys picking up garbage who lost their jobs?
It took longer to do my street and I am not impressed, other than the blue containers, that make the street look neater. I always wonder who authorizes the spending of our money on these kinds of things, and we have no say whatsoever!
How many guys lost their jobs over this change, I wonder?
