AVON PARK - Police in Avon Park are working to identify a Hispanic male who was killed after being hit by a car while crossing U.S. 27.
Avon Park Police Chief Matt Doughney said the accident happened near the Shell gas station right in front of Palmetto Street at 8 p.m. The victim was hit by a northbound car.
Doughney said the man had no identification on him, and investigators are now reaching out to members of the Hispanic community for help.
The driver of the vehicle was a Frostproof lady, according to Doughney.
"She did not flee the scene," he said.
The woman has not been charged in connection with the accident at this time, according to Doughney.
Any charges would be pending the outcome of the investigation.
No other information was available.
