A Sebring teenager was injured Tuesday morning after he ran his 2007 Ford Mustang into the back of a garbage truck.

The accident happened just after 8 a.m. on the Sebring Parkway near Cleveland Road. Sebring Police Cmdr. Steve Carr said the driver, 16-year-old Mihir Patel, was having difficulty seeing because of early-morning fog and direct sunlight.

"The sun was in his eyes and he never even saw the garbage truck and he went right into the back of it," Carr said.

Patel was airlifted from the scene and taken to Tampa General Hospital. Officials did not have a condition available late Tuesday afternoon because he was still being treated.

Damage to the Mustang totaled $15,000, according to the crash report. The garbage truck was listed as unoccupied.
