This is a reply to Roberta Leslin's letter. I am sure that she has no knowledge of the sheriff department's operations. She hates Sheriff Benton or is trying to belittle her.

First: Sheriff Benton is doing an outstanding job and has many outstanding supervisors who operate the various sections of the department. Of all the sections in the sheriff's department you will find there is no babysitting section.

Second: The mall is a private enterprise and should run its own internal security and will call the sheriff department if they require assistance just as you or I would do.

Third: The time that is set for unescorted minors to leave the mall is set by the house owners or managers, not by the sheriff.

Fourth: My taxes should not be used to babysit children at the mall.

Finally: I hope this will give you the knowledge to know the vast responsibility to protect you and your property the sheriff's department has. The only solution I know is for you to escort your grandson and his six friends at the mall or write nasty letters to the mall management.
