AP approves tentative tax rate/budget

AVON PARK - The Avon Park City Council approved a $13.2 million tentative city budget for 2009-10 and a tentative tax rate unchanged from last year.

If approved by a second motion and after a second public hearing on Sept. 28, the city taxes will be $5.8745 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.

The city's 2008-09 budget is $15,082,683.

City Finance Director Renee Green noted that the city's operating budget (general fund) for 2009-10 is 18 percent less than in 2008-09.

The 2009-10 budget includes the following appropriations:

• General fund - $6,071,644.

• Infrastructure - $865,839.

• Main Street CRA - $220,109.

• Southside CRA - $89,364.

• Airport CRA - $52,658.

• Water/sewer enterprise - $4,140,821.

• Airport enterprise - $402,786.

• Solid waste enterprise - $1,399,671.
