AVON PARK - The city of Avon Park issued two precautionary boil water notices Wednesday due to a six-inch water main break as a result of a vehicle hitting a fire hydrant on Winthrop Street and a two-inch water main break on the west side of North Lake Avenue.
The areas affected include Winthrop from Emmanuel Way to the Lake Isis area, which includes the 700, 800 and 900 blocks of West Winthrop, Ruth Street, Winifred Street, Palmetto Street, Emmanuel Way, Kingdom Way and Oak Lane.
Also affected is North Lake Avenue from Lake Isis Avenue to Monroe Street. The Manors and Avon Park Mobile Home Park are included.
The city advises that water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes should be boiled for at least one minute.
The precautionary notice will remain in effect until the problem has been corrected and a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink.
