SEBRING - Four people were arrested or detained after the driver of a vehicle ran from a Hardee County detective late Friday night. At Country Club Estates of Sebring, the driver bailed out, and was still at large Saturday.
Highlands County Sgt. David Stewart said Andy Byers, Ashley May, Kelly Vang and Daniella Martinez may have been inside the white four-door 1999 Chrysler registered to Maria Ayala.
According to interviews with Stewart and Hardee County Maj. Randy Dey, the Chrysler was spotted by a Hardee County detective in an area known for narcotics. After the detective tried to pull over the car, it fled at a high rate of speed. The detective followed the driver, who refused to pull over.
It continued down State Road 66 into Highlands County, and turned onto County Road 635. Dey said something was thrown outside the car, but the object was never recovered.
The driver is wanted for questioning in several felonies, Stewart said.
Dey was unsure of two of the people detained by Highlands County were in the suspects car, or showed up later. They are all part of an active criminal investigation though, he said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 863-773-0304 and ask for Maj. Dey.
