If the ACLU or some other so-called public-minded organization is able to block the installation of those red-light cameras designed to photograph red-light runners and I'm rammed by some guy (genderless) who feels stopping for a red light is a nuisance, will I be able to sue those who kept me from being safe for damages and pain and suffering?
The argument seems to be that the safety devices can only be legal if used statewide. I thought we already had a statewide law that says it's illegal to run red lights?
More civil liberties stuff
I wonder when the ACLU is going to sue the government to eliminate the celebration of Labor Day? After all there are a lot of unfortunates who don't have jobs and therefore can't benefit from a paid day off. That's discrimination.
Perhaps the government can provide holiday wage stimulus money to the I-can't-celebrate-Labor-Day group.
Belated thanks
I owe thanks to our tax collector Charles Byran who incurred the wrath of the state by providing me with the option of renewing my auto license plates for two years at the old rate. I never thought I'd be thanking a tax collector but when he, like the popular Geico, saves me a ton of money what else can I say but, "Thanks Charles."
Whatever happened to the amateurs?
Tiger Woods has indicated that he would play in the Olympics if golf became part of the program in 2016. Whatever happened to competing amateurs? We keep watching the same guys week after week now.
Besides, I wonder how the U.S. Olympic Committee is going to handle Tiger's red shirt fetish. Does he have to wear it only if the last day of the competition falls on a Sunday or does any last day count? What happens if the committee votes for blue shirts? Would they risk doing so?
Let he who casts the first stone
Did you read where a newspaper in Dubai is applauding Obama on his decision to probe the CIA's reported prisoner abuse? This from an area in the world where women are still stoned and thieves have their hands chopped off.
What was that again?
I keep seeing these lines at the local AMSCOT offices and I can't help but wonder how people can afford to be poor?
Isn't it interesting how congressional liberals use the distress of a few to feed the folly of the many?
When asked what the 13-year old who wants to sail alone around the world should add to her shopping list one of my readers suggested, "How about the last rites."
Does anyone read those agreements that come along with the installation of computer software?
Overheard
Overheard at the checkout counter: Every time I see one of those household cleaning product commercials I want to go over to Usher's and polish furniture.
