Motorcyclist dies after hitting school bus

LAKE PLACID - An Avon Park motorcyclist has died after running into the back end of a school bus early Thursday morning.
Ryan Martin, 23, was taken to Florida Hospital Lake Placid, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The school bus was crossing the southbound lane of U.S. 27 at Palmetto Drive as Martin was also traveling south down 27 on his 2008 Suzuki motorcycle, the FHP said. The bike hit the back end of the school bus.
A passenger on the bus, William Martin, 18, of Sebring, was taken to Highlands Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, according to the FHP.
Lt. Gus Garcia, with the Highlands County Sheriff's Office, added that heavy morning fog probably played a factor in the accident.
