AVON PARK - When good talent meshes with good coaching, great things happen.

That statement was proven to be worthy last Saturday as the Avon Park Youth Football Red Devils took care of the Fort Meade Miners in dominating fashion at Memorial Stadium.

The No. 2-ranked Avon Park Youth Flag squad, which improved to 9-0 on the season, played inspired football and controlled the game from the opening play.

The aggressive AP defense set the tone to start the game and finished by limiting the Miners to negative total yards.

Touchdowns by several players, including a 30-yard touchdown pass from Derrick Cobb to Otis Ford for the first Red Devil score, brought the crowd to its feet as they went on to win 33-0.

The No. 4-ranked Avon Park Mighty Mites, undefeated at 9-0, were back in action last Saturday after a forfeit win the previous week against Lake Wales.

The AP Mighty Mites' speed and power were too much for the Miners as Javarious Smith led the way in the 31-6 victory.

The Devil Pee Wee's (9-0) proved again why everyone in the league is talking about them. The Devils smashed the Miners 41-12 in a dominating performance.

The AP Pee Wee's who dropped to No. 2 in last week's poll after beating Lake Wales 36-0 in the prior game, proved to the fans why they should be the top-ranked squad.

Avon Park's Junior Squad improved their record to 7-2 with a 32-0 victory over Fort Meade.

Hard-hitting, long runs and efficient offense proved to be the formula for success.

The Juniors are preparing for a big rematch against the 7-2 Sebring Blue Streaks for the district crown.

Sebring defeated the Red Devils a few weeks back by a score of 20-15 in a very entertaining game. These two teams will match up again the following weekend in the first round of the MFFCC playoffs.

The APYF Red Devils will travel the short distance up the road to take on their rival Blue Streaks this Saturday at the Sebring Highlands County Sports Complex.

Game Times are Flag at 9 a.m., Mighty Mites at 10:30, Pee Wee at noon and Juniors begin play at 1:30 p.m.
