Published: October 21, 2009

SEBRING - The Atonement Lutheran Church has scheduled a planning meeting for 5 p.m. Oct. 26 at its church social hall for its fourth annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner.

The church committee is in need of at least 10 turkeys, pies, and donations of the fixings consisting of stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, gravy and green beans. The church committee will also need plates and utensils.

The church is located at 1178 Lakeview Drive, in Sebring, across from the Sherwin-Williams Co. paint store.

The dinner will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26, and is free to anyone who wishes to attend.

There will also be drop off points set up at Lemon Street and at the coin laundry next to the Blue Crab restaurant on North Ridgewood Drive starting at 1 p.m. Nov. 26.

"Last year we served over 400 meals" said Patti Graff, representing the church. "It's free. It's for anybody who is alone, who doesn't want to be alone, or can't afford it; it's for the entire community."

The sit-down meal at the church will be served by line-servers buffet style.

With the economy as it is, she said she hoping to serve a lot more, maybe even 600 meals.

"We really need pumpkin pies," said Graff. "We are in need of at least 40 pies. If anyone in the community could find it in their hearts to help us, we would really appreciate it."

It is doing God's work here on Earth, both Patti and Ed Graff believe.

Both said when it is all over it gives you a great feeling from knowing you've helped someone that might not have had a Thanksgiving dinner.

They will also need volunteers to prepare and serve the meals. These meals take a lot of planning and preparation. Anyone interested in baking, cooking, serving and helping or making a donation can reach Graff at (863) 835-2548.
